Chocolate Overload

Last week I was abruptly woken by stomach pains and then proceeded to throw up for the rest of the day. It was horrible! Seeing food and not being able to eat it is torture for me. It wasn't until the Friday that I started eating normally again, which in hindsight I shouldn't have because I hadn't fully recovered... nevertheless, a week later, I'm almost better, hooray!

Sunday is normally movie day and before the movies Jack and I like to treat ourselves to drinks at Theobroma Chocolate Lounge. The other week we were particularly hungry after a disappointing lunch so ordered a bit to eat as well.

Wildberry Frappe and Dark Hot Chocolate
Waffles with Ice Cream
Chocolate Mousse
Jack's new love is the wildberry frappe; refreshing and tasty. For me, anything with dark chocolate because it's "healthy". The waffles were yummy but would have been healthier with dark melted chocolate ha! The mousse however was terrible. For someone with low standards and likes the KFC chocolate mousse desserts, I had trouble eating this. Perhaps it was too rich and too gelatinous? I don't know, I know where gelatin comes from but this was the first time I could see and taste it's origin in the back of my mind?! Strange. But other than that, I love this place. Jack used to bring me chocolates at work before we started dating and Theobroma was one of the first places we hung out at. Oh the memories...

Early Mother's Day Dinner

Happy Mother's Day!

Unfortunately I had work all day and mum had plans for the evening so we did an early celebration dinner last night.

Before all the earthquakes, Yoshi was one of my favourite Japanese restaurants. My sister and I used to always go here on a friday night because it was one of the few places we could actually get a table without a booking (sooo much effort). Nowadays, you are lucky to get a booking and they have seating times, so the whole restaurant (six or seven tables) arrived at 6 and we basically all had to be out by 7.30.

Stuffed Shiitake, Okonomiyaki and Seaweed Salad
Scallop Nigiri, Tako Wasabi and Tuna Tataki
Specially Selected Sashimi
Yoshi's Carpaccio
Specially Selected Nigiri
Pork Cutlet with Potatoes and Salad
Assorted Tempura
Chicken Nanban with Potatoes and Salad
Tempura Soba Noodle Soup
I was actually surprised they managed to get us out by 7.30. They only had one chef and with so many tables ordering at once they did very well. Did want to order dessert but I think next time if we do intend on eating dessert, we would need to order it at the same time as the meal because we never got the opportunity to do so and our last dish arrived about 10 minutes before leaving time.

We asked for the tempura to be separated from the soup (soggy fried stuff is not our thing) but they forgot. Other than that though the food was good. Probably not as great as I remembered but much better than the ones we'd been to the past few times. My favorite dish is tako wasabi and after eating it at every Japanese restaurant I am fairly sure that it comes packaged but I'm not sure where they get it from because none of the asian supermarkets stock it here. The Japanese supermarket possibly did but sadly they didn't reopen after the quake so currently there is no way to cheaply feed my addiction sigh.

Mixed Cupcake
Chocolate Cupcake
There was a nice video on the news website's life and style section on how to make cupcakes the other day, which reminded me that I had a voucher for cupcakes. I am actually not too big of a fan of them, they're beautiful and all but I don't really like icing. The cupcake I ate though had mock cream which was better, but still, I prefer fresh cream cakes.

Just Lunch with Danni

Went for a small lunch date/catch up with Danni this afternoon. I spent a a few weeks researching places to go for lunch (it's a big decision not to be taken lightly!) and we finally settled with Just Desserts.

Reviews of this cafe weren't great but they are also a cake shop and cakes make everyone happy so it can't be that bad right?!

Creamy Mushroom on Ciabatta
Omelette
Wedges
Chocolate Mousse Cup
Cookies and Cream Cheesecake
The cakes and desserts in the glass cabinet looked amazing. The plan (my plan) was to try every single one of them but luckily we didn't do that because lunch/breakfast was so filling. It was a little confusing because they didn't have a physical menu and I was such an eager beaver to get lunch started that we went at a bit after 11. At 12 they put up their blackboard lunch menu, had we known, we would have waited for lunch. Nevertheless, breakfast was alright. The wedges were very dry but that didn't matter because it left room for dessert, yay!

Perhaps next time I might give the "main" meal a miss and just go for the treats. I need to listen to my heart more, my original plan was definitely the way to go!
